Where Haktive began
Haktive started with a simple observation and a question: How can we help more children enjoy being physically active both at school and at home?
The Beginning
As a PE specialist with over 20 years of experience working with primary schools, teachers, and children, I noticed a gap between the physical activity children were getting at school and what they were doing at home. The government was advocating for 60 minutes of activity every day, with a 30:30 approach developing - 30 minutes in school and 30 minutes at home.
But there was a problem. Not every family had the resources, knowledge, or confidence to support their children's physical activity at home. Many parents didn't enjoy PE when they were at school, and weren't sure how to help their own children.
The Idea
The idea for Haktive came from wanting to empower families to be more active together. I believed that with some basic equipment and lots of ideas on different ways to use it, families could have fun while developing important physical skills.
Practice is the key, and I wanted to create resources that would make that practice enjoyable and accessible to everyone.
From Concept to Reality
In 2019, Haktive was officially launched. Initially, it was in the form of a bag of equipment and a book full of ideas and challenges. The response was immediate and positive.
Many schools began using their Sports Premium funding to purchase whole class sets, seeing benefits that extended beyond physical development to include improved concentration, behavior, and social skills.
Growing and Adapting
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we quickly adapted our approach. We began providing free weekly challenges and more focused resources like the Haktive PE Summer Special to help families stay active during lockdown.
As we've grown, we've expanded our offerings to include resources for teachers, digital content, and specialized equipment, but our core mission remains the same: to inspire a lifelong love of being active in children everywhere.
Looking Forward
Today, Haktive continues to evolve, but we remain committed to our founding principles:
- Making physical activity fun and accessible
- Empowering both teachers and parents
- Creating resources that develop fundamental movement skills
- Encouraging families to be active together
We're excited about the future and grateful to all the families, schools, and teachers who have joined us on this journey.
Thank you for being part of the Haktive community!
